Celebrating 75+ Years of 166 Auto Auction

Since the late 1940s, 166 Auto Auction has been a cornerstone of the Midwest dealer community. Founded just outside Springfield, Missouri, the auction began with dirt floors and no running water. Under the leadership of Melvin Reid, it steadily grew—adding lanes, factory sales, and helping shape the national auction industry. Reid later served as NAAA President and was inducted into its Hall of Fame.

Through decades of innovation and change, 166 remained focused on one thing: serving dealers. In 2024, 166 joined forces with ACV Auctions to offer even greater access and flexibility—combining in-lane service with the power of online wholesale.
